Before dawn, we will board our private coaches and make our way to one of the World’s Seven Wonders. Shrouded in mystery and a monument to human ingenuity, it is estimated that over 30 million man-hours were put into building the three phases of the creation of Stonehenge. Most definitely one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Stonehenge has been around since at least 3100 BC (and perhaps much longer!) There are many speculations as to why it has been built, ranging from human sacrifice to astronomy. This archeological site still leaves experts puzzled today. Find yourself standing in the middle of this ancient and amazing structure, as the sun rises over the stones.
The group will convene for in the courtyard of The Bear Hotel then be off in a private coach to tour Glastonbury Abbey. Once the grandest and richest Abbey in England; by tradition, Glastonbury is the earliest known Christian sanctuary in Britain. Within the Abbeys 36 acres of Somerset parkland lies an atmosphere with ponds, orchards and wildlife. A site visited by Christ and the legendary burial place of King Arthur & Queen Guinevere, this amazing tour begins its story in 1191 with the tales of King Arthur’s Court, the Knights Templars and more!
Afterwards, off of a quaint downtown courtyard, you’ll enjoy lunch at Rainbows End Café and spend some time walking the shops, taking in the traditional architecture.
With the feeling the cobblestone still beneath your feet, you will board the private coach and head to Cadbury Castle in Somerset. Cadbury Castle is the best known and most interesting of the reputed sites of Camelot. This remarkable site comes with many myths and lore, and of course the locals will speak of the Arthurian legend there.
As the evening sets, you’ll be taken back to The Bear Inn by private coach for an evening of adventure on your own in downtown Devizes. With plenty of restaurants within walking distance and the canals nearby, you’ll have your own stories to tell of this wonderful evening.
